Come and meet local author Carol Smilgin. In her novel Provenance Carol
Smilgin explores the shadowy world of art theft. The international art
collector, Jeffrey Lawler, is killed by a hit and run driver on his way to
investigate two inherited masterpieces. Subsequently, his wife Rebbecca finds
herself in danger. Will Georges Lartique, a provenance specialist from Paris, be able to solve
the puzzle in time to save her?
Ms. Smilgin has been an art collector
since the 1970's. She has worked in an Upper East Side Manhattan art gallery,
visited printmakers in their Paris studios,
shown artists' work in her Manhattan apartment,
and connected artists with galleries in and outside of New York. Her writing career began in
the 1990's. She has written three novels. At the moment, she is in the midst of
revising the first, Love Was a Stranger. Provenance is her second
and the third, Concerto, is waiting to be revised. Ms. Smilgin is
the mother of two married sons. She lives on Cape cod with a Turkish Angora cat
on Cape Cod where she’s an active member of
the Cape Cod Writer’s Center.
