Irish Harp Concert~ Christmas Memories

UPDATE: All tickets for this concert have been claimed. You are welcome to come and enjoy the music, but there are no more available seats in the immediate performance area.

Irish Harpist Mairead Doherty will return to the Dennis Public Library for a concert of Irish Music. She will be joined by flutist William Miner, violinist Mark Oien, and vocalist Fr. John Dolan.



This concert celebrates the spirit of Christmas, highlighting traditional carols, songs, and poetry for the Christmas season. 

Seating is limited at this concert. Please stop by Dennis Public Library starting Tuesday, December 10th to pick up a FREE TICKET to ensure your seat.

New Traffic Pattern


Route 28- Hall Street One-Way Traffic



Please note the changes to the roads near the library. 
Drive safely and visit us soon!

Starting Wednesday, November 20, 2019, Hall Street between Route 28 and Edwards Avenue in Dennis Port will be converted into a one-way street, allowing traffic to travel eastbound only.  Vehicles travelling westbound will be required to use Division Street or Depot Street.  


The conversion of this section of Hall Street to one-way is part of the Route 28 Dennis Port Streetscape project that is designed to improve pedestrian and vehicular safety.  Any questions concerning the project can be directed to the Town of Dennis Engineering Department at (508) 760-6166.

Closed for Thanksgiving

Thursday, Nov. 28-Friday, Nov. 29


The library will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 28th-29th in celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. We will resume regular hours on Saturday, November 30th. 

Stop by to stock up on books and DVDs before the holiday. Don't forget that you can always checkout eBooks through the OverDrive or Libby app!

Library re-opens Wednesday, Nov. 13th with limited services

On November 8, 2019 the Dennis Public Library experienced a mechanical failure in an air handler, which caused extensive water damage to portions of the building.

The Library, with the exception of the damaged areas, is expected to re-open Wednesday morning, November 13, 2019 at its normal time of 10:00 a.m. The Library will have limited services, but patrons will be able to return and check out material.

The public computers and Wi-Fi will not be functional for another few weeks until renovations are nearing completion. All phone lines at the Library are currently out of service. 

The Benjamin & Ruth Muse Meeting Room and the Children's Room will not be accessible until work is completed. Portions of the Children's collections have been relocated to the main area of the Library, where Storytime will still take place on Thursday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Automatic Renewals!

Not quite finished with your book? CLAMS libraries are please to announce that materials eligible to be renewed will be automatically extended another loan period, up to three times. No more calling the library or hurrying in to return things! 



Please note the following exceptions: museum passes, express items, items already renewed three times, and items from outside of the CLAMS network will not be renewed. 

Items that cannot be renewed may still accrue fines. You can see due dates for all of your items by logging into your account at clamsnet.org

Closed Tuesday, November 12th

On Friday, November 8, 2019 at approximately 6am, the Dennis Public Library experienced a broken coil resulting in damage to the library’s children’s room and meeting room..

For the safety of its patrons, the library  will remain closed through Tuesday, November 12th as we continue to clean up.

Most scheduled programs have been cancelled for this week. If you have questions about if a program will take place, please contact the library when we are open again.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we get everything back in order.

CANCELLED- Poetry Reading- Ronald Harrison Fenn

Join us for a poetry reading titled "Gathered Short Poems of the Seasons" by published poet Ronald Harrison Fenn. Mr. Fenn has shared his poetry at the library several times in the past, always to glowing reviews from the audience. We appreciate his continued support and willingness to share his writing with the community.

Mr. Fenn has written 15 volumes of journal, five collections of ongoing poetry, short story, essays, book reviews, letters and public lectures. 

A teacher at Cape Cod Community College, he previously taught at Cambridge College and Suffolk University. He is a past member of the Shakespeare Oxford Society and Shakespeare Fellowship.

His poems have been published in the 2014 Dennis Conservation Land Trust newsletter and the Cape Cod Times Sunday edition in July 2019, chosen by blind selection by a panel of published poets. Upcoming in the fall/winter Dennis Conservation Land Trust Newsletter, upon their request and selection, his recent short poem "Naked Loss of Trees" will be published to highlight their topical theme on reforestation. 

Mr. Fenn devotes his time to writing, traveling and uncovering historical roots of uniquely diverse American character. He lectures at schools, colleges and civic organizations with topics ranging from poetry to early American history.

NEW DATE~ Friends of Dennis Public Library Annual Meeting

Thursday, December 12th at 1:00


You are invited to the Friends of Dennis Public Library's Annual Meeting. 

At this meeting, officers of the Friends Board will be elected for the 2019-2020 year. 

Members of the Friends of Dennis Public Library, as well as anyone interested in joining as a board member or committee member are encouraged to attend. 

The Friends support the library by raising funds for materials and services. They sponsor lectures, the summer reading program, and other beneficial activities. Funds for these purposes come from the annual dues paid by members of the Friends, fundraising activities and events, and the Friends' book sale. Stop by the meeting to learn more about the Friends and how you can help!

This meeting is open to the public. You do not need to be a member of the Friends to attend.

Join local author Joseph Theroux as he discusses the third installment in his Robert Louis Stevenson Detective series, "Honolulu Dragon."

Following the success of their detective work in the cases of "The Devil's Throat" and "The White Kahuna," Lloyd Osbourne and his step-father Robert Louis Stevenson find themselves in a world of murder and intrigue in Hawaii.


Joseph Theroux has published four previous novels, as well as fiction and historical articles for the Pacific Islands Monthly, New Pacific, Hawaii, Honolulu, Spirit of Aloha, and Historic Nantucket. He has lived in Samoa, Hawaii, and now resides on Cape Cod.
