Thursday, June 1st at 6:30pm

Join local author Hugh Blair-Smith as he discusses his book "Left Brains for the Right Stuff" about the Space Race. What made the Space Race possible? What made it necessary? How close a race was it? And what did it achieve? The answers involve the history of three technologies- rockets, navigation, and computers- and how they were woven together to make Apollo and the Space Shuttle significant contributions to winning the Cold War.

Author Hugh Blair-Smith, a part-time Cape Codder since 1946 and full-time since 2015, was a staff engineer at MIT's Instrumentation (later Draper) Laboratory from 1959 through 1981. He and many colleagues created one answer to the long-sought quest for "a moral equivalent to war."

Henry Beston's Outermost House- a Photographic Exhibit

Exhibit open May 13th-June 10th

Gallery Talk- Saturday, June 10th at Noon

This photographic exhibit of ten framed images honors Henry Beston, and his iconic book, The Outermost House. The chapters in Beston’s memoir follow the seasons, describing the forces of nature he experienced during those months. Each of the ten images was selected to bring one chapter of the book to life.

The photographs were captured along The Great Beach - Beston’s playground, and in Eastham, not far from where the Outermost House once stood. The title of each picture was composed using Beston’s poetic words and phrases from the respective chapter. The exhibit will be on display starting May 13th at 11:00am. It will close with a gallery talk on June 10th, where the Dune Tramp, Robby McQueeney, will discuss each photograph, and read passages from The Outermost House, which correspond to the images.
