The Yankee Division of WWI

Saturday, November 17th at 12:30

In commemoration of the centennial of the end of the First World War, we are hosting a talk by the Cape Cod Military Museum about the 26th Yankee Division.

The 26th "Yankee" Division was created from the National Guard units of the New England states. It was the first full US Army division to arrive in France in 1917. Approximately 15,000 Massachusetts men served in the 26th, making it the largest unit the state sent to the war.

There will be a discussion of the big picture battles and the personal stories of the Doughboys in those battles. Where possible humorous anecdotes are mixed in to the horrifying story of the world’s first war on an industrial scale.
