Norma, a forgotten silent star, lives in exile in her grotesque mansion, screening her old films, dreaming of a comeback. A down-on-his-look screenwriter is persuaded to move in and help her, causing many complications.

With a mesmerizing performance by Gloria Swanson, this 1950 film was nominated for 11 Academy Awards, and coined the expression, “"All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."
